Ethical Foundation of Western Society
Ethical Foundation of Western Society
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic dimensions of Western ethical thought. Students also gain knowledge and understanding of key ethical concepts (value, duty, justice, dignity, virtue, etc.), major theories (ethics of virtue, deontological ethics, utilitarianism), and key authors. At the same time, the course focuses on the critical assessment of individual attitudes and analytical treatment of ethical issues, especially those that are relevant to modern society and its greatest challenges. One of the central themes of the course is the notion of justice in all its dimensions (fair distribution, justice, status of justice, global justice, environmental justice, animal rights, epistemic justice).

Religion and Science
Religion and Science
The course aims to lay ground for a dialogue between Christian religion and science. This includes a hermeneutic approach to religion and a phenomenological analysis of science (within the lifeworld). Two major topics concerning the relation between science and religion will be discussed: cosmological theories about the origin of the universe and the creation vs. evolution debate.
