The main aim of the master study program Biotechnology is to satisfy the need for the most up-to-date technologies and knowledge for various fields of biotechnology. The program offers two orientations: System biotechnology and General biotechnology. Graduates will be able to continue their studies in doctoral programs and, because of their broad education, will have various employment possibilities in the fields of education, research and development (universities, institutes), in the field of marketing and service activities (large, medium and small biotechnology companies, commodity markets, economic interest associations, insurance companies etc.), in the public sector (EU administration, ministries, agencies, funds, chambers, control and certification organisations, consumer protection organisations etc.) and self-employment (independent businessperson, advisor, independent assessor).
The master study programme Microbiology is planned and designed in such a way that it enables continuation of bachelor study of natural and biotechnical science. The study offers basic knowledge from genetics, molecular biology and the biochemistry of microorganisms and a range of applicative microbiological knowledge, which a student can deepen in the context of sanitary medical microbiology, microbial biotechnology and microbial ecology. The basic aims are to educate professionals with in-depth knowledge about the influence and functioning of micro-organisms in the environment, biotechnological production and people. Within the framework of a master project, the students are confronted with independendent research work. Graduates have the possibility of continuing research in doctoral studies.
The master study programme Molecular and functional biology is designed to provide braod spectrum of biological knowledge with great aplicability in business sector. Aquired competences in biochemistry, molecular genetics, immunology and physiology enable employment in various branches. Some special courses (Biomolecules in industry) are included in the programme because this knowledge is required in industry (biotechnology) and will play important role in near future. High portion of practical training in form of laboratory practical, seminars and in course of master thesis prepares graduates for autonomous and responsible work.
The master study programme Biochemistry is designed to qualify professionals for further academic advancement based on the knowledge acquired through undergraduate and master’s level studies, and to provide profound knowledge and skills in biochemistry to qualify for professional positions as biochemists in pharmaceutical, chemical and other biochemistry related industries and the public sector, and to acquire such a standard of knowledge and competencies to continue studies in doctoral study programmes.
The master study programme Chemistry is designed to upgrade knowledge and understanding of chemistry to be able to develop original ideas in research work, to qualify professionals assuming positions as chemists in chemical and chemistry-related industries and public services, to acquire high standards of knowledge and skills for further academic advancement.
The master study programme Computer and information science is designed to extend, broaden and enhance knowledge and skills acquired in the first cycle, and for the mastery of advanced practical and theoretical knowledge in the field of computer and information science. The programme keeps abreast of rapid technological progress and offers a foundation for lifelong learning and career success in both the local and international environment. The programme also provides a basis for research and development work and for a career in academia. Holders of the master's degree are capable of assuming senior and leading positions in industry, management, science and research. The programme is divided into thematic sets, which enable students to select subjects with aligned content. Depending on their own initiative, students can engage in projects at individual faculty research laboratories.
The master study programme Financial mathematics is designed for students wishing to work in the financial industry. In addition to courses in probability, statistics and financial mathematics, students also take some courses at the Faculty of Economics and some pure mathematics courses. Graduates of this programme can take active part in planning and development in financial institutions and financial departments of large companies or engage in scientific research at economic research institutions. They can find employment in major banks, insurance companies, stock brokerage companies, investment firms, pension companies, health benefits companies, public sector and public agencies, logistic sector (optimisation), economic research institutes and universities. To enroll, a bachelor degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, financial mathematics or a related field is required.
The master study programme Mathematics is intended for students with an interest in pure mathematics, for those who wish to pursue a PhD degree in mathematics, and for those who want maximum flexibility in the selection of courses. Graduates of this programme can take active part in planning, engineering and development in professional environment, or engage in scientific research in mathematics, theoretical computer science or theoretical mechanics. They can find employment in research and development companies (or their branches) using mathematical modelling, software development companies, mathematical or mathematics related research institutions, and universities in general. Main objective of the programme Medical physics is training of experts in the field of medical physics who will participate in technologically most complex research and treatment in medicine, will perform control of said research, play a key role with their expert advice, supervision, purchasing and introduction of cutting-edge medical technology. The programme will train specialists who will work on further integration of physical sciences in biomedical sciences, particularly in the field of general diagnosis and cancer treatment, as well as engaging in interdisciplinary research in the fields of medical physics, biophysics and biomedical sciences. After completing the programme, experts will be able to critically evaluate new science and comparability of new technologies for transfer into clinical practice.
The aim of the master study programme Physics is to educate researchers and specialists with the advanced knowledge of physics and the knowledge of physical laws of nature with the ability for critical thinking and a critical approach to solving a wide palette of problems and exercises. The offered programme oritentations represent a vague specialization, which is, because of a small number of obligatory courses, still flexible enough in the specialization and inter-disciplinarity. The programme also enables students of other, especially technical and natural science programs, to deepen their knowledge of physical principles and laws in connection with their specialization. The programme is based on mastering theoretical material and the application of those (in connection with practical learning).
Graduates of the master study programme Geology can upgrade basic knowledge in all fields of geology. Depending on personal interests, students specialise by choosing specialist modules of study; in the context of optional courses within the module, students can intensify further specific knowledge of selected narrow areas of geological disciplines or interdisciplinary approaches. The ultimate objective of the study programme is to train experts able to solve problems in the field of basic research of the majority of geological sciences as well as work in the field of applications and solving interdisciplinary problems. Graduates are able to independently solve complex and highly specialised problems and tasks in selected fields of geology.
