The new construction which will be located near the Biotechnical Faculty (Department of Agronomy, Department of Landscape Architecture, Department of Food Science and Technology and Department of Biology) will directly contribute to establishment of a higher education and research campus, comparable to campuses of excellent research universities.
Such conditions will foster internationally comparable excellence in staff, research and development, and transfer of knowledge in an entrepreneurial environment. There is also Technological park Ljubljana Brdo and the National Institute of Biology in the vicinity.
Removal of the UL FKKT and the UL FRI into the new premises will enable the UL and other owners to use the old facilities for their own activities (UL NTF – Textile department, the UL FFA, the UL MF, the UL FMF, the Institute Jožef Stefan, the National Institute of Chemistry, the Institute for Transfusion and other public education and research institutions, such as Šolski center Ljubljana).
The new location will initiate development of a new scientific research international and conference centre of Ljubljana and Slovenia. The location already has the needed road traffic infrastructure (the northern highway in the vicinity is the direct link to the national airport), there is the congress centre MONS within as short distance (conference and hotel facilities), The Technological Park (already a research and innovative centre, providing services to 259 firms and companies), the UL BF, the NIB, and the Student dormitories.
Conditions for formation of the natural sciences technical campus will be created, as it is already practice in the best universities in Europe.
The economic effect of the investment from the point of view of the citizens, living in the direct vicinity, is potentially higher value of their real estate, renting rooms to students or visiting professors, new employment possibilities and pursuing complementary and supporting activities (conference events, cafeteria, restaurant…).
Last but not least, the location of the new premises is in a green belt, next to the protected natural park Tivoli, Rožnik and Šišenski hrib, which will undobtedly contribute to comfortable and creative atmosphere among the students, teachers, researchers and others, participating in the educational and research activities in the new facilities.
The location also provides possibilities for further expansion of the UL in the neighbouring area.
