University of Ljubljana and its 23 faculties and 3 art academies comprise the oldest and largest high education, scientific-research and art institution in Slovenia, established in 1919. University of Ljubljana stands for fundamental, applicable and development-oriented research. The Rector leads and represents the University. Rector’s collegium and collegium of Deans are the Rector’s counselling bodies. Study

Over 50 percent of candidates who enrol into graduate programmes complete their studies, over 66 percent of those enrolled into post graduate programmes complete their studies, and over 80 percent of candidates become PhDs in science.

University of Ljubljana is renowned for quality student programmes in social sciences, humanistic studies, science, medicine, engineering and arts, fully drafted in line with Bologna declaration guidelines. In the framework of University itself and its cooperation with foreign universities, we provide interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies on all three levels.

In addition to lectures, exercises and seminars, a lot of attention is dedicated to practical training, involvement of students into project work, international exchanges, extracurricular activities, career counselling, and other activities for students.

Research

University of Ljubljana is one of Slovenia’s largest research institutions. The scientific research work accomplished by researchers and research teams includes top projects in the fields of arts, sciences, natural sciences, technology, social sciences and medicine.

Exceptional achievements in the scientific field are being exchanged with fellow universities, science and research institutions and the economy sector. This is a contribution into Slovenian and global treasury of knowledge, from where knowledge is transmitted to students and other users.

University of Ljubljana encourages internationalisation. The University is connected to Europe’s most renowned Universities, while our Faculties are being encouraged to connect with specialised high education institutions. We are reinforcing international cooperation by playing an active role in international associations like the Utrecht Network (UN), networks of Universities UNICA, CELSA and The Guild.

In 2014, we established the University of Ljubljana Global Alumni and Associates Network, uniting scientists, professors and other renowned individuals working in the field of academia, research and development abroad, who are associated with Slovenia. For the University of Ljubljana to become the recognised leading University in the broader region, we continue increasing the number of research projects and the scope of research project related funds, the number of international students, and recruited international personnel.

Cooperation with the economic sector

Connections of science with the economic and non-economic sector are supported on all levels which are being developed at the University of Ljubljana scientifically, and research and expert-wise. The purpose of such networking is to achieve efficient and timely transmission of knowledge and services into the economy and wider society.

This is achieved through development-research and expertise-filled work, employment of our graduates, though encouragement of entrepreneurship, counselling and participation of experts from practical fields in educational and research work, with lifelong learning programmes, training and perfecting programmes and courses.

Extracurricular activity

Activities provided through the Career centres of the University of Ljubljana encourage students to be actively involved in finding connections with employers during the time of their studies, to acquire additional competencies and gain best possible chances of finding employment after completing their studies.

Activities are entirely free of charge and available at all of University of Ljubljana’s Faculties and Academies. The Extracurricular activity centre offers opportunities for development in other, non-studies related areas, particularly sports, arts and culture, volunteering and charity work, as well as social and socialising activities and protection of health and environment.

Alumni

Clubs of alumni from all University Faculties and Art Academies are active under the common title Alumni of University of Ljubljana. Mentorship is being encouraged through various activities, as well as life-long education, networking, cooperation and solidarity. Their activities connect them with different stakeholders in endeavours for professional expert development of future generations, they support transmission of knowledge and social responsibility for sustainable development of Slovenian society.
