Prof. Dr. Jean Greisch

Jean Greisch, from the Catholic Institute of Paris, is one of the main exponents of modern hermeneutic philosophy and the philosophy of religion. He seeks answers to questions of the modern polyphonic world, to which metaphysics and phenomenology no longer offer satisfactory answers, in the hermeneutic paradigm of reason, which proceeds from knowing to understanding, from meaning to sense, from certainty to the wisdom of uncertainty. For this reason our age is dubbed the ‘hermeneutic age of reason’. He developed his thinking in a dialogue with Ricœur, Derrida, Levinas and others.
