Researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Ljubljana have obtained a Twinning project in the field of continuous (bio)catalytic processes

The project aims to develop continuous (bio)catalytic processes for the valorization of biomass-based raw materials. UL FKKT will organize numerous workshops and lectures, where eminent researchers from partner institutions will transfer knowledge, while younger researchers will conduct joint research projects at foreign partner institutions, thereby gaining important knowledge, international contacts, and experience.

The project will involve more than 30 employees from the Chair of Chemical Process, Environmental and Biochemical Engineering, the Chair of Biochemistry, the Chair of Organic Chemistry, and the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry. Academic partners from the Polytechnic University of Milan, the University of Aldo Moro in Bari (both Italy), the Graz University of Technology (Austria), and the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) are participating in the project, along with Sustainable Momentum SL (Spain). Additionally, two leading researchers from the participating institutions are ERC project grant holders.

The project was successful in the European Commission's HORIZON-WIDERA-2023-ACCESS-02 call and is the third coordinating project of this kind obtained by UL. It is worth 1.5 million euros and will commence in October this year.

Under the Horizon Europe program, the European Commission funds research and innovation projects to strengthen research and innovation in Europe. The "Twinning" projects promote excellence in research through networking and other training activities. Measures to expand cooperation and spread excellence within the Horizon Europe program contribute to strengthening the research and innovation capacities of countries with low participation in the 7th Framework Program and Horizon 2020.
