The Arts Council of the University of Ljubljana (UL) is made up of representatives from the three arts academies and faculties that offer study programmes in the field of arts.

Role and Functions

The UL Arts Council is responsible for the development of the field of art at UL and its affirmation:

  • promotes excellence in the arts
  • strives to expand the range of artistic activities and projects at UL
  • strives for the equal and balanced development of all artistic genres and disciplines at UL
  • promotes new forms of presentation of artistic works
  • develops and promotes hybrid and interdisciplinary forms of artistic expression
  • promotes interdisciplinarity and networking among UL members
  • strives to put the arts, artistic creation and recreation on an equal footing with scientific and research activities at UL
  • strengthens the role/importance of research within artistic activities
  • promotes the connection between fields of arts and science
  • promotes collaboration/links with artistic institutions and strengthens collaboration with local artists 
  • promotes international collaboration/links and international interdisciplinary art summer schools and other forms of collaboration and networking and strengthens collaboration with foreign artists
  • promotes the development/regulation of copyright/intellectual property in works of art
  • also strengthens arts and artistic creation as an economic and commercial sector
  • promotes the development of various sources of funding for artistic activities at UL
  • ensures the consolidation and further promotion of UL's artistic achievements within the university sector and in the national and international environment
  • ensures the presentation of cultural events and artistic achievements for the enrichment of the academic community (students, academic and professional staff) and the general public
  • strives for the presence and transfer of UL's arts into all areas of social life on a national and local level
  • promotes the internationalisation of UL through artistic and artistic research activities and thus strengthens the internationalisation of UL
  • promotes the social role of the arts in the national and international environment
  • initiates and proposes improvements in the (implementation of) study programmes in the field of the arts
  • is active and reacts to important social and international events and situations
  • acts as an intellectual forum
  • has zero tolerance for any form of violence and discrimination
  • promotes the integration of digitalization and new technologies
  • cares about the environment, ethics and equality of all actors and users of the arts
