prof. dr. Matjaž Krajnc.jpgProf. Matjaž Krajnc received his BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Ljubljana in 1993. He worked as a researcher at the National Institute of Chemistry in Ljubljana and received his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1997 from the University of Ljubljana. Afterwards, he was employed at Helios Coating Company as a Head of R&D Division. In 1999 he joined the academic community of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Ljubljana. He was Visiting Researcher at John Hopkins University and at Oregon State University under American Chemical Society Fellowship. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of Zagreb. In 2000, he was elected to the title of Assistant Professor, in 2005 to the title of Associate Professor and in 2009 he was elected to the title of Professor of Chemical Engineering. He served as a Head of Polymer Engineering Department (2001-2013), for three consecutive terms as Vice-Dean for science and research at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology (2003-2013), and he was elected to the position of the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology (2013-2017). He was also a member of the University of Ljubljana Senate’s Commission for Research and Development (2007-2009) and a member of the Senate of the University of Ljubljana (2013-2017).

In addition to these activities, Prof. Matjaž Krajnc teaches a wide range of courses, including numerical methods in chemical engineering, transport phenomena, as well as catalysis and heterogeneous catalytic processes. He was a supervisor to eight PhD theses, eight MSc theses and a mentor to over hundred graduate works.

His research interests vary, from chemical reaction engineering, heterogeneous catalytic processes to advanced polymer-based materials. His recent academic publications focus on biocatalysis in pharmaceutical processes and novel polymer products based on benzoxazines and were published in The Chemical Engineering Journal, Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, European Polymer Journal, Express Polymer Letters, and Polymer. He published more than 70 scientific papers in international scientific journals, which were cited over 1100 times (h‑index: 18). He has led four national research projects and he is a Head of national research program “Chemical engineering” from 2008. He is also a member of Editorial Advisory Board of International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives.

At present, Prof. Matjaž Krajnc is Vice-Rector of the University of Ljubljana for Science and Research.
