The Human and Interpersonal Relationships

The Human and Interpersonal Relationships programme combines spirituality and basic mental health skills. Through the study content, it guides students to explore who a person is, how a person makes sense of his/her life, how he/she acts, what motivates him/her, what are his/her values, how to understand human distress, how experiences shape a person, where certain value and idea systems come from, what are the psychological laws of his/her functioning, what meaning have relationships, how to resolve tensions and disagreements, how to make sense of human suffering and forgiveness. It focuses on human in his multiple relationships – to his neighbours, to society, to himself, to the natural environment, to God, to the transcendent.
The programme consists of a compulsory group work where students acquire basic knowledge in spirituality, religion and theology, as well as in psychology, counselling, developmental and relationship theories. The subjects covered in the collaborative work form the basis for in-depth study in the chosen field of study.

The Theological and Religious Studies study field is aimed at students who want to be active within church communities and those who would like to broaden their horizons with Christian culture and traditions of other religions. The course is aimed at promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue and is also suitable for those seeking answers in the field of religions and beliefs. It also adequately prepares those who wish to pursue a second cycle of study in Religious Studies.

The Marriage and Family Therapy and Counselling study field is aimed at students who wish to study psychology, counselling and psychotherapy. Upon completion of their studies, students will be able to provide basic family mental health care - education, support and guidance to families in order to successfully prevent psychosocial problems. The course provides students with basic knowledge of psychotherapy and personal therapeutic experience. The programme is based on the competences of the psychotherapeutic profession as laid down by international standards and as such is also intended to provide basic education in psychotherapy and to guide students towards further study in family therapy at second and third level.
The study of Marriage and Family Therapy and Counselling is interdisciplinary, as in addition to experts in the field of family therapy from the Faculty of Theology of the University of Ljubljana, higher education teachers from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ljubljana are also involved.

After their studies, students are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts.
Both study fields can be studied in Ljubljana or in Maribor, on a full-time or part-time basis.
