In addition to the ethics committees of some faculties for specific research areas, there are various bodies or committees at national level that can assess ethical issues in the research areas in question.

Committies of the Republic of Slovenia for Medical Ethics

It is responsible for the ethical review of all state-funded biomedical research on human subjects, for the approval of all multicentre and multinational research, for all biomedical research on human subjects carried out in the context of master's and doctoral theses, and for all research which, in the opinion of the sectoral medical ethics committees, raises significant ethical problems ... (quoted in Article 10 of the Regulations)

The Commission gives: consent to proposals for scientific research projects in the field of health, consent to the use of complementary traditional and alternative forms of diagnosis, consent to the testing of untested methods for the prevention and detection of disease and injury, treatment and rehabilitation, consent to the conduct of biomedical research, opinion on clinical trials of medicinal products and medical devices (referred to in Article 4 of the Rules of Procedure)

Ethics Committie for Animal Experiments

Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection Administration of the Republic of Slovenia

If research work is carried out on live experimental animals or on the tissues of animals sacrificed for the purpose of carrying out the research work, a permit for the use of animals in experiments must be obtained from the Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection Administration (FVVPA). The FVVPA will decide on the application for a permit for an experiment in accordance with the assessment of the ethics committee.

Committie for ethical issues

The Committie, on its own initiative, detects and accepts proposals of ethically questionable practices and violations of the principles of scientific and artistic work. Reports of breaches of research integrity are dealt with by the Ethics Committee in accordance with the 

Rules of Procedure of the Ethics Commission (ECE).

Committie on Ethics in Research Involving Human Subjects

The Committie decides on applications for ethical review of research projects or research involving human subjects that are conducted within the UL or involving third-level students or UL employees as researchers and that need to be conducted at the university level because of the multidisciplinary nature of the research, or because the researchers are from a Member State where there is no such commission.

Ethics Committie of the Faculty of Social Work UL

The Ethics Committie of the UL FSD assesses whether research follows ethical rules and standards. The Commission's judgement is particularly relevant for research that will involve service users and other stakeholders in social work, social care and related fields as a source of data.

Ethics Committie for Sport

The Ethics Committie in the Field of Sport, which operates within the Faculty of Sport of the UL, gives its opinion on research activities or projects that impinge on the integrity of living beings in the field of sport and physical culture, which are or may become the subject of such questions in accordance with the development of the doctrine of ethics, the ethical understanding of reality and of human action.The Ethics Committee in the Field of Sport, which operates within the Faculty of Sport of the UL, gives its opinion on research activities or projects that impinge on the integrity of living beings in the field of sport and physical culture:

  • addresses the issues relating to the acquisition, storage and transmission of personal data
  • discusses and concludes on ethical issues in terms of the use and methods of teaching, education and training, etc.

Ethics Committie of the Faculty of Arts, UL (KEFF)

considers applications for ethical review of research tasks and projects conducted within the Faculty of Arts (FF) and involving work with human subjects. It accepts applications from teachers, researchers and research associates employed at the Faculty of Arts and from students of bachelor, master and doctoral studies at the Faculty of Arts. It also receives external applications for review, the review of which is charged according to the Faculty of Arts price list. The KEFF gives opinions on proposals for research projects involving work with human beings using methods of the humanities and the social sciences, as well as non-invasive psychophysiological or neurophysiological instruments and methods.

Ethics Committee of the UL Faculty of Education

The Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Education (FPEF) considers applications for ethical review of research conducted within the Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana involving work with human subjects. It accepts for consideration applications from applicants who may be employees of the UL PEF and who come from outside the UL PEF.

KEPeF gives opinions on research proposals that involve working with people, using research methods from the social sciences and humanities, and fall within the following scientific fields: educational sciences, teacher education, social pedagogy, special and rehabilitation pedagogy, speech and language therapy, speech and language pathology, tiflopedagogy and pedagogy of specific learning difficulties, supervision and personal organisational counselling, cognitive science, and other scientific fields developed by UL PEF.

Committie for Ethics in Research of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FESR):

  • Considers applications for ethical review of research tasks and projects carried out within the Faculty of Social Sciences involving research that invades the privacy of human beings or has human subjects as the subject of the research.
  • accepts applications for consideration from teachers, researchers and research associates employed at the UL FDV and students on the proposal of the supervisor and gives opinions on proposals for research projects involving research work with human subjects using methods from the humanities and social sciences.

Ethics Committie for Scientific Research at UL EF

The Ethics Committee for Scientific Research of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana (UL EF) considers applications for ethical review of research proposals involving interactions with human subjects or based on the collection of personal data. It accepts applications from applicants who are employees of the UL EF.

Ethical Review Panel for Nutrition Research (ERP) at the Faculty of Biotechnology UL

The Ethical Review Committee for Nutrition Research deals with issues related to the ethics of nutrition research, provides opinions and clarifications on individual issues in this field, and assesses the ethical acceptability of nutrition research protocols, namely:

  • intervention and non-intervention trials on nutrition, food supplements, foods for special medical purposes and novel foods,
  • nutrition research using prospective or retrospective health data,
  • nutritional research that intervenes in the human body and psyche,
  • opinion research in the field of nutrition, food and food safety.
