Geography of Slovenia

The course is introducing students with the physical- and human geography amenities of Slovenia, their importance for landscape complex, and as well for former, present and future development of the state. Student is capable of analysing the interdependencies among physical- and human geographical components (on selected examples) and is aware of actual geographical issues of Slovenia, its landscapes/regions.

Content (Syllabus outline):

  1. The position and consequences of position of Slovenia in the middle geographical latitudes and in the junction of major European natural units.
  2. Relief of Slovenia and recent surface transformation processes.
  3. Soils and their degradation and threatenes.
  4. Weather and climate heterogeneousity and changeability.
  5. Water resoures of Slovenia and their importance.
  6. The essential transformation processes in Slovenian cultural landscapes during the 20th Century (industrialization, deagrarization, motorization, uniformity, corridors, peripherialization).
  7. The key restructuring factors of Slovenian cultural landscapes at the beginning of the 21st Century (deindustrialization, tertialization, globalization, glokalization, networking).
  8. The issues of contemporary Slovenia (economic developments, traffic, environmental issues, energy, health, Slovenes in the ethnical areas and diaspora).

Carbon materials for energy storage and conversion

Carbon materials for energy storage and conversion

Carbon based materials are indispensable in modern technologies. Furthermore, recent development of carbon nanomaterials has resulted in intensive scientific activity with a goal to develop new class of materials for new applications including energy storage and conversion (ESC). In this respect this course aims to contextualize the recent advances in carbon materials by providing a broader view of their properties, how they are synthesized, how they are characterized, and how they are functionalized. Besides describing different types and uses of carbon allotrope materials, their application and role in ESC will be also be covered.

Detailed presentation of the most important systems (lead-acid, nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride, lithium ion, post-lithium ion systems etc.). Advantages and disadvantages of various systems. Quantitative methods in finance

The students will obtain the knowledge and skills for modern econometric analysis. The students will understand essential differences between time series, cross-section data and panel data, and the specific econometric problems met when working with these types of data. In the last decade corruption became an extremely important issue in development economics. Corruption is recognized as a major obstacle to the economic development as well as to making effective use of development aid in many undeveloped countries. The course intends to examine the reasons for corruption occurrence and its social, political and economic consequences. The course has three objectives. First, to consider a theoretical framework, forms and consequences of corruption for economic development. Secondly, to study domestic and foreign corrupt cases in order to examine specific forms of corruption and the difficulty in identifying phenomena and in obtaining and analyzing data. And thirdly, to examine best practices in detecting and preventing corruption worldwide.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is a contemporary business practice designed to put an enterprise into closer touch with its customers in order to learn more about them on an individual level and, on this basis, deliver greater value to each of them. It is a business philosophy that has to permeate the entire organisation in order to produce results.
In this course the students will understand customer-cantered marketing approaches. The main objective of the course is to analyse and solve complex professional and work problems and optimize processes within the procurement, intralogistics and distribution logistics using several mathematical methods (multicriteria decision making problems (MCDM), Analytics Hierarchy Process, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Mathematical Linear Programming, Risk analysis, Activity Based Costing. The subject enables students to identifying supplier/logistics service provider selection criteria, to select the appropriate supplier/logistics service provider, to perform risk analysis, to identify and measure the efficiency within procurement, intralogistics and distribution logistics. Students are also able to select the appropriate location of the different infrastructure and determine the number of storage locations. The subject is also focused on designing lean intralogistics using several lean methods (Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, 20 Toyota’s keys, Benchmarking etc.). Special attention is also given on the implementation of the logistics outsourcing.

The program is determined each year, and typically covers topics in physics and related fields research. Students can choose the seminar topic among the available topics or through the choice of the supervisor - teacher at the faculty. Students will perform literature search in various databases and on internet. Lecture can be up to 40 minutes long, allowing 5 minutes for discussion. Lecture is based on computer slides. After the lecture, final written version of the seminar must be submitted in two weeks. Text should not exceed 12 pages. Final form of the text must suitable for publication at the conference or in a journal. During the 1st semester students also attend some of the presentations at Seminar II in order to identify research areas rthey are interested in and conact potential supervisors.

LADME system: mechanisms, kinetics, methods, physico-chemical, technologic and biologic parameters, biopharmaceutical classification system, in vitro-in vivo correlation. Pharmacokinetics, pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic relation. Compartmental pharmacokinetics: models, structure, parameters; single/multiple dose pharmacokinetics; one-/two-compartment models; different routes of application, pharmacokinetic analysis of plasma concentration profile and urine cumulative amount profile. Bioavailability and bioequivalence.

Ethical Foundation of Western Society

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic dimensions of Western ethical thought. Students also gain knowledge and understanding of key ethical concepts (value, duty, justice, dignity, virtue, etc.), major theories (ethics of virtue, deontological ethics, utilitarianism), and key authors. At the same time, the course focuses on the critical assessment of individual attitudes and analytical treatment of ethical issues, especially those that are relevant to modern society and its greatest challenges. One of the central themes of the course is the notion of justice in all its dimensions (fair distribution, justice, status of justice, global justice, environmental justice, animal rights, epistemic justice).

• therapy of the equine athlete,
• performance enhancing drugs.

Enrolment in the study year. Attendance at practical training is obligatory.

• Obtaining appropriate samples for the purpose of disease diagnosis and selection of diagnostic tests.
