The basic aim of the study programme is to educate an expert in the field of woodworking with excellent applied knowledge in the field of technologies for processing and treatment of wood and fibrous composites. The academic bachelor study programme Urbanism is designed to provide contents of higher education qualification of an architect-urbanist.

The programme’s basic objective is to qualify professionals for less demanding tasks in the field of urbanistic planning and design and spatial management. An architect-urbanist’s responsibility derives from the purposes and meaning of urbanistic design, quality of urbanistic lay-outs, their harmony with the environment with respect to the natural and urban landscape, which is in public interest.

The profile of an architect urbanist is extremely complex, because architect-urbanists have to be capable of thinking about people and their spatial issues from different perspectives: from regional development criteria to architecture and vice versa. They have to derive from modern theoretical and technological knowledge, upgrade it, and endeavour to find the balance between the functionally-technical and the artistic component of the urban creation.

The educational profile of an architect urbanist combines knowledge from the technical, social science and humanistic fields, with additional components of capability to design and create space or build urbane structures

Academic bachelor study programme Chemical Engineering is designed to empower future engineers to act professionally in real industrial processes and on the basis of chemical engineering knowledge manage, analyze and design chemical processes and products.

Graduates generally have good foundation knowledge in the major fields of chemical engineering, solid knowledge of chemistry and sufficient knowledge of mathematics and physics. The acquired standard of knowledge and competences empower them to enroll into master study programmes. They are able to implement analyses, syntheses and understanding of the influence of technical products on environment and society, communicate efficiently, also in English, and use modern presentation tools. They acquire skills to work in multidisciplinary groups, understand the principles of management and understand business practice. They are aware of their professional and ethical responsibility and are capable of autonomous learning and feel the need for life-long learning.

Professional bachelor study programme Chemical technology represents a link between natural and mathematical sciences and engineering sciences.

This programme is focused on practical work of future graduates in a wide range of work positions in industry, research institutions, administration and elsewhere. The reform and modernisation of the study programme has been conditioned by external factors, i.e. EU directives and directives of the Republic of Slovenia for higher education, as well as internal factors.

Among the latter there are: the need for continuous modernization of higher education programmes as a response to dynamic changes in the development of chemistry and chemical industrial production as well as the related fields of pharmacy, materials etc. Changes are necessary also due to increased concern for environment protection and higher safety requirements in transport and production of various chemicals etc. In this respect, the programme is a combination of fundamental chemical knowledge and applied knowledge directed into technology and engineering.

Academic bachelor degree study programme Civil engineering is organised in 5 modules (in the 6h semester): Buildings, Hydraulics, Municipal Engineering, Structures and Traffic. 

The graduate acquires general basic knowledge and understanding in the wider area of civil engineering, is motivated for further study at the postgraduate level, understands the creative relation necessary for designing built environment in natural or existing urban environment, has wider knowledge of civil engineering allowing interdisciplinary connection with several other areas, acquires education comparable to related study programmes in Slovenia and in wider European area.

The programme is harmonised with the principles of the Bologna Declaration and follows the recommendations by EUCEET and the FEANI Engineering Association. Progression conditions and educational practices that encourage regular study as well as the tutorship system assure good progression rate of the students.

Academic bachelor degree study programme Geodesy and geoinformatics is designed to train experts by providing consistent general basic knowledge from all areas of geodesy and geoinformatics, as well as knowledge from some related areas, important for geodesy and geoinformatics.

Within elective courses students will be given the opportunity to further their knowledge with related areas according to their interest. They will also be introduced into specifics of Slovenia and Europe resulting from particular historic, social and economic or geographic characteristics.

By working in groups, with project work and with issue-oriented tasks students will become accustomed to team work, to public appearance and customer relations. As much as possible, the students will have the opportunity to test the theoretical knowledge they acquired in practical examples and real cases of use. This will help them in the early stages of practical work after finishing the study.
Another goal is to provide sufficient knowledge in basic engineering science, abstract thinking and empowerment for successful continuation of study in different master study programmes.

The academic bachelor degree study programme Water science and environmental engineering provides students with general fundamental knowledge of natural and social sciences, as well as applicable expert (civil) engineering skills for solving elementary administrative procedures and designing, planning, implementing and maintaining less demanding civil engineering structures in the areas of water management, municipal and environmental engineering.

Besides gaining general theoretic knowledge, students will also learn the traditional principles of water science and the latest achievements of the profession, presented in a modern way using state-of-the-art technology.

By working in groups, involvement in project work, field work and by solving problem tasks, students will acquire the essentials of interdisciplinary teamwork and public speaking skills and will be able to coherently present scientific and engineering ideas to expert and lay public. They will become acquainted in business with clients in administrative procedures, procedures of public procurement, and designing of structures and measures.

Professional bachelor degree programme Construction Management consists of 3 years (6 semesters) and amounts to 180 ECTS points. In the 6th semester the study programme offers elective modules, Organisation, Structures and Traffic.

Students acquire the necessary basic knowledge from fundamental natural and IT courses, basic knowledge from the fundamental courses of civil engineering and basic knowledge from professional civil engineering courses.

Within elective courses in the second and third year, students may specialise and also start preparing for further study according to the programmes of second cycle. Within the study students acquire traditional knowledge upgraded with the latest achievements, delivered in a contemporary manner with modern technology. They learn about all specifics of Slovenia and Europe as a consequence of special historic, social-economic or geographic characteristics.

By working in groups, within a project work and theme tasks they get accustomed to team work, public presentation and working with customers. With practical work in the field and in laboratories the graduates acquire the necessary skills to work in civil engineering.

Geodesy is, beside astronomy, the oldest science known to humanity. As science it aims at defining the Earth’s shape, it measures and represents the Earth’s surface, and deals with drawing maps, use of GIS technology, recording real estate and managing space. Geodesy is also the intersection point of surveying, cartographic and representational areas of knowledge. What they all have in common is the focus on the Earth’s surface, translated into coordinates, different data bases and documents, maps and multidimensional representations, which are important commodities for all those managing land, buildings and waters.

An engineer of geodesy is an expert with academic education, who masters measurements with surveying methods, using different measuring procedures that lean on various technologies. His or her basic task is collecting and processing data on land and geographic features. Surveyor’s task is also research work and discovering new procedures for recording spatial elements.

Graduate of the first cycle higher education study program Geodetic engineering and real estate management acquires the professional title: DIPLOMIRANI INŽENIR GEODEZIJE (VS) – BACHELOR OF GEODESY (HE).

 

The programme is of 3 years’ duration and worth 180 credits. Besides applied knowledge, the course also equips students with the skills required for autonomous research and development work, as well as resources for the continuation of studies at the master’s or doctoral level. The first two years are common to all students and then they can choose among four programme options of study:

•    Power Engineering and Mechatronics,
•    Information and Communication Technologies.

 

The programme is of 3 years’ duration and worth 180 credits. It is focused on the applied knowledge required for work in production, modelling and other fields in the business sector. The first year of studies covers a common curriculum for all students, followed by five study options in the second year:
•    Control Systems,
•    Electronics,
•    Power Engineering Technology and System Automation,
•    Quality Engineering,
•    Information and Communication Technologies.

During the last (6th) semester, students complete compulsory work practice, which is worth 20 ECTS credits and has a duration of 13 weeks (3 months). They also write their thesis, which is worth 10 ECTS credits.

 

To provide graduates quality knowledge, based on solid fundamental skills of knowledge and understanding a wide range of mechanical engineering topics, thus providing the graduates the adequate competences skills for appropriate employability, in the case of completion of the study. The academic bachelor study programme Geotechnology and Environmental Engineering is a natural sciences and engineering programme that prepares future graduates for work involving underground construction, environmental engineering and obtaining mineral resources.

During their studies, students perform industry placement training that gives them the opportunity to get acquainted with work processes and use their theoretical knowledge in practical situations.

Together with the acquired practical experience and the counselling offered by teaching and professional mentors, students use electives to shape their study programme in such a way that the theoretical and specialist content is tailored to their requirements and needs.

Consequently, students obtain the necessary competences required for direct employment and/or continued professional or theoretical training in the entire field of obtaining mineral resources, primary processing of raw materials, blasting, underground construction, drilling techniques, observation and tracking in nature, geotechnical research, evaluation and conducting of activities affecting nature, the rehabilitation of degraded areas, environmental management, solid waste materials and land redevelopment due to natural disasters (landslides, earthquakes, etc.) and because of incorrect past activities affecting nature.

The knowledge and skills obtained enable graduates to work in demanding professional and managerial jobs both in the public and private sector; at the same time, it gives them the opportunity to continue their studies in the framework of similar postgraduate courses.

Materials have always played an important role for mankind. Basic goals and competences of the academic bachelor study programme Planning textiles and clothing  are capability of managing the most technologically demanding processes in the textile and clothing industry; capability of planning complex products and technological processes; ability to understand modern concepts of quality management systems and their importance in global competition; ability to transfer theoretical knowledge into practice and use it to solve problems, especially by seeking new sources of knowledge and using scientific methods; independence and initiative in decision-making and management of the most demanding work; capacity to communicate with co-workers and specialists in related branches; well-developed professional ethics and sense of environmental responsibility; provided in-depth knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry with a developed capacity for thinking in terms of the natural sciences for further education at the second level.

The professional bachelor study programme Geotechnology and Mining offers an education steeped in the natural sciences and engineering, following the latest developments in professions centring on geoscience and non-living matter. Increasingly, we have also seen the need for students to acquire other knowledge, for example from the areas of environmental protection, economics and IT. Mineral extraction, underground construction, and so on are activities which interfere in our environment.

The annual world market production of steel has raised from 800 mio tons to 1,500 mio tons in the last eight years, and the trend is still moving upwards.

High quality level of steels and other non-ferrous metals and their alloys are crucial for a successful global economy and technological development. With this in mind our  professional bachelor study programme Metallurgical technologies addresses current global needs.

The basic goal is to qualify professionals to integrate in an industrial setting, implement industrial processes, including production control, quality control and attestation of industrial products.

From the historical point of view the methods used in development and control of metallurgical processes and characterisation methods of metal materials have been adopted by other engineering materials. For this reason, the goal of this study programme is to also qualifying professionals to deal with quality control of the majority of engineering materials.

This new programme focuses on acquiring professional knowledge and competences for market demands of innovative, high-technological society, providing also a sound theoretical basis. Graduates can continue education throughout the life-learning process, and acquire new information- communication skills. In all subject there is a s strong emphasis on verifying theoretical knowledge through practical work practising team work and encouraging innovative thinking.

The basic goal of the professional bachelor study programme Textile and Clothing Engineering is to train experts capable of managing the most technologically demanding processes in the textile and clothing industry, to train them in planning complex products and technological processes, and at the same time provide appropriate basic natural science and professional knowledge for further education at the second level.

General competences include ability to transfer theoretical knowledge into practice and use it to solve problems; ability to experiment and visually transfer various concepts of thinking; developed capacity for independent learning in a specific professional area; initiative and independence in decision making and management of the most demanding work; ability to communicate with colleagues and experts in related disciplines; developed professional, ethical and environmental responsibility; and ability to use modern tools, skills and dexterity in daily professional and scientific research work.

Subject-specific competences comprise in-depth knowledge of natural sciences; understanding the interdisciplinary development of modern fibre forming polymers by combining different scientific disciplines: chemistry, bio (techno)logy, nanotechnology and information technology; capacity to link the effects of various raw materials and technological factors to the structure and properties of yarns, woven and knitted fabrics, nonwovens and knitwear; capacity of optimising technological processes of clothing production; knowledge of the theoretical basics of finishing; capacity of planning pre-finishing, dyeing, printing and finishing processes with consideration for environmental requirements; capacity of supervision, analysis and management of the production process; and ability to understand modern concepts of quality management systems and their importance in the context of global competition.

The basic aim of the study programme is to train graduates for the most demanding planning and design work in the landscape, for applied research work in the development and protection of cultural and natural landscapes, for environmental (protection) planning when intervening in space and protected areas, and for designing urban and suburban landscapes. The acquired knowledge of graduates includes selected environmental topics and spatial development planning-oriented subjects, especially tourism and recreation, rural areas, green systems in urban and urban areas and protected areas, renovation of historic parks and gardens.

The basic aim of the study programme is to educate experts who can cover the ever greater demand for a developmental approach by companies, which is increasing the need for top professionals from the field of wood science and technology. In-depth knowledge of the specific properties of wood and wood based materials, processing technologies and the organisational and economic characteristics of the operation of a company are crucial for the overall development of the branch and/or individual wood companies. Graduates are trained independently to provide overall solutions to complex professional problems, especially by seeking new sources of knowledge, and to work interdisciplinarily and to use scientific methods. They are trained in the creative use of modern information technologies and the organisation and management of groups and/or companies.

The master study programme Urbanism is organised in the framework of the study at the UL Faculty of Architecture, yet due to its interdisciplinary nature, it is also interesting for students of other faculties who have completed the first cycle, and who wish to direct their studies into the field of urbanism.

The study programme provides contents from the fields of theory and criticism of urbanism, architectural and urbanist design, spatial management, environmentalism, urban geography spatial legislation, spatial economy, spatial sociology, infrastructural systems and other spatial sciences.

The master study programme Chemical engineering is dsigned to qualify professionals seeking careers in the field of chemical engineering.

Students will acquire knowledge about the field, get acquainted with the engineering tools, methods and techniques used in research/development for developing chemical products and processes; able to identify and solve complex engineering problems and use innovative experimental techniques; acquire communication and management skills and transfer the knowledge and skills to others.

The study programme Buildings focuses on buildings - their design, construction, use and removal. A major focus is on the design of building envelope, which requires connection of building physics with bioclimatic design strategies as well as the needs and demands of the building users. The study programme Buildings thus represents a link between the architectural and constructional design of the built environment.

The study programme is tailored to the needs and requirements of designing the living and working environment in buildings. The most important guideline here is the greatest possible harmonisation between the built and the wider natural environment, as this is the only way to achieve the long-term goals of sustainable development while providing comfortable living. In this way, a building, as an engineering product, becomes part of the larger ecosystem and enables its users and society as a whole to function more efficiently and comfortably.

Only graduates of the second cycle master study programme Civil Engineering are able to acquire the licence for the design and construction of the most demanding buildings and engineering structures. Therefore, the goal of the study is to train experts with in-depth basic knowledge at the wider area of civil engineering and, most importantly, with specific in-depth knowledge of narrow areas of the selected study orientation.

Specific contents of the study orientations start already from the first semester. Students have the possibility to choose from a wide selection of elective courses, which gives them the possibility to take beside mandatory courses of the selected orientation also courses from other orientations.

In detail, the study at the orientation Structural Engineering focuses mainly on the areas of analysis and design of demanding buildings and engineering structures, at the orientation Geo- & Hydrotechnics on the areas of hydraulics, river regulation, analysis and design of demanding geotechnical or dam and hydrotechnical structures, at the orientation Infrastructural Engineering on the areas of public service infrastructure, construction procedure, information technologies and traffic engineering, while at the orientation BIM A+ students acquire specific knowledge from the area of modern consulting engineering for the design, implementation and maintenance of building structures.

The study includes a two week practical training in construction and construction-related businesses and finishes with a master module, which focuses mainly on seminar work and leads to the final thesis. The second cycle diploma is also a ticket to the development and research work at the selected area of civil engineering. Master engineers find work not only in design offices and contracting companies, but also in institutes and other organisations. Some of them continue their academic careers, while many are attracted to marketing and management of construction services and products.

The study of civil engineering offers a wide variety of possibilities for international exchange and great possibilities for cooperation with the construction industry.

The master study programme Geodesy and geoinformatics is uniform (does not include orientations). The basic goal of the study programme is to educate experts capable of analytical and synthetic thinking, creative, critical, efficient and constructive solving of complex research and development problems and project-applied tasks in the fields of geodesy and geoinformatics. The programme ensures interdisciplinary integration of the experts and at the same time, it provides excellent foundation for further studies at the third cycle of any natural science and technical programmes. At the same time, it enables students to obtain a license of Responsible Surveyor by the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers. The study programme provides students comparability of educational attainment also in an international context.

During the study, the students are expected to learn about the traditional principles upgraded by the latest findings. The contents are delivered in a contemporary way using modern technology. Students also learn about all specifics in Slovenia and Europe resulting from special historic, socio-economical and geographic characteristics. With group work, project work and problem-oriented tasks, the students get accustomed to group work, public appearance and managing customers as well as get actively involved in research.

All the acquired theoretic knowledge is tested to the largest possible extent with appropriate practical work and by solving demanding theoretic or professionally oriented problems and projects. This allows students to get involved in practical work after the study and to understand the issues related to geodesy and geoinformatics.

During the second cycle master study program Water Science and Environmental Engineering graduates acquire fundamental knowledge of natural sciences, as well as fundamental and most importantly applicable professional (civil engineering) skills for solving demanding administrative procedures and designing, developing, implementing and maintaining demanding civil engineering structures in the areas of water science and environmental engineering.

Besides gaining general theoretic knowledge about hydraulics and geotechnics, students will also learn the modern principles of water science and the latest achievements of the profession in individual areas of environmental and civil engineering, presented in a modern way using state-of-the-art technology With group and project work, field word and by solving subject-specific tasks students develop essential teamwork and public speaking skills and are able to coherently present scientific and engineering ideas to expert and lay public. They become acquainted with project management in the fields of environmental civil engineering, especially designing specialised construction types and measures. All the acquired expert knowledge can be tested to the largest possible extent within practical tutorials and rea-life case studies, which helps students, together with practical training as part of the study program, to get involved in practical work after the finished master study.

The objective of the Nuclear engineering master study program is to train experts in the field of nuclear engineering.

The program offers a wide range of fundamental knowledge in the areas of mathematics, physics, engineering and computer science - all focused on nuclear technology.

The program is aimed at a broad range of students with a university degree in technical or natural sciences such as physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, metallurgy, chemistry, mathematics.

The program upgrades the students' basic education at the bachelor level with knowledge from the areas of nuclear physics and technology. In addition, a wide range of elective courses enable the student to get an insight into current scientific issues in selected topics of nuclear engineering.

The ultimate objective of master's study programme of Mechanical Engineering - Research and Development program is to educate graduates of 2nd cycle from area of technics and science to equip them in to experts who will be able effectively and creatively solve complex research and development problems and project application tasks in the area of a wide range of Mechanical engineering and will be capable to link interdisciplinary.

Basic fields of studies, which are provided regulary: Machine Design and Mechanics, Power and Process Engineering, Production Engineering, Mechatronics and Laser Technology. Wherein the first three directions are divided with the two sub-directions, as follows: Machine Design and Mechanics: Mechanics of Materials, Systems and Processes, Engineering Design and Product Development Power and Process Engineering: Thermal and Process Engineering, Power Engineering Production Engineering: Production Technologies and Systems, Design of Production Systems. The interdisciplinary directions of the Study Programme, which is carried out by Faculty are published in an announcement of enrolment for the each study year: Traffic Safety Systems, Engineering rheology, Environmental Engineering, Welding, Terotechnology, Engineering pedagogy, Engineering, Safety.

The fundamental goal of the master study programme Geotechnology is to train experts with in-depth and targeted knowledge and skills from core areas in geotechnology and mining; the electives, meanwhile, offer especially detailed knowledge from individual fields of geotechnology and its associated areas.

In the framework of the study, students will discover traditional principles upgraded with the latest discoveries; all this in a modern educational environment and using modern technology.

Students will also learn all about the particularities of Slovenia and Europe that stem from special historical, socio-economical and geographic characteristics. By working in groups, undertaking project work and solving problems, students will learn to work in teams, give public talks and do business with customers as well as to actively participate in research. Students will have the chance to test all the acquired theoretical knowledge through practical exercises and solving demanding theoretical and vocationally-oriented problems and projects; this will make practical work after their finished studies much easier, while at the same time providing a better understanding of problems from the narrower fields of geotechnology and mining.

Students acquire the necessary thorough and oriented knowledge and skills from fundamental courses in the natural sciences and IT; they also follow fundamental courses in geotechnology and mining, while obtaining additional knowledge from professional courses. In the context of the offered courses and electives, the student also has the possibility of specialising in a particular field and continuing his or her studies at third-level programmes. The goal of the programme is to ensure international comparability, mobility and transferability, enabling students to continue their studies in Europe and find employment within the EU.

The programme is in line with the minimum demands of the FEANI association and thus has an accredited programming which may award the Euro-ing title. The students are supported by general student and teacher tutoring and tutoring focused on certain courses. Students use their knowledge in practical scenarios by taking part in industry and mining, construction and similar companies in accordance with their employment plans. Graduates are provided with in-depth theoretical and thorough professional knowledge, are employable and are capable of independently performing even the most demanding expert and developmental projects in the field of geotechnology and mining both in Slovenia and elsewhere in Europe.

The  master study programme Metallurgy and materials is designed to train professionals with in-depth and focused knowledge and skills in the expert field of materials and metallurgy science.

Within the study course, the students acquire the traditional principles of material research upgraded to the latest findings. The basic objective of the programme is to qualify professionals for employment in research institutions in the areas of natural sciences and engineering, primarily in development, manufacturing and application of standard and modern functional materials, as well as in administrative services or to continue their careers in academic institutions.

By working in groups as well as on project work and problem assignments, students  become accustomed to working in groups, public speaking and conducting business with customers and active involvment in research. Student test all their acquired knowledge to the fullest extent possible through test cases in exercises and solving complex theoretical or specialised technical problems and projects, as this enables easier integration into practice after graduation and understanding of issues from narrower fields of materials and metallurgy.

Students acquire vital in-depth and focused knowledge of fundamental natural science and computer and information courses and upgrade their knowledge from basic courses of metallurgical profession and specific knowledge from technical courses. As part of the curriculum and optional courses, the student is given the opportunity to specialise and prepare for further studies in doctoral programmes.

Basic goals and competencies of the master study programme Planning textiles and clothing  are:  in-depth knowledge in the area of textiles and clothing; expanded research approach to the study of the fast developing technologies in the area of textiles and clothing,  capacity of seeking new sources of knowledge through scientific research methods, a ability to experiment and handle various concepts, capacity of comprehending the interdependence between technology and design, initiative and independence in decision making and in management of highly demanding work, capacity of managing most complex working systems by developing critical reflection and communication capacity of teamwork management; developed professional, ethical and environmental responsibility;  ability to use modern tools, skills and dexterity, primarily in the field of ICT technologies in daily professional and scientific research work.
