Learning Slovene for free

Slovene as a foreign language 1 (3 ECTS credit points)

It is a course of Slovene as a foreign language designed especially for the University of Ljubljana students to meet their specific communicative needs by learning the Slovenian language systematically in an organized setting. The course is implemented through language practice in groups of 20 students, thus encouraging active students' participation in listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Teaching and learning is adapted to the level of communicative language skills of the participants, the contents reflecting the actual needs in everyday life communication as well as for study purposes. The student load corresponds to 3 ECTS credit points, including 60 hours of group work.

Slovene as a foreign language 2 (3 ECTS credit points)

It is a course of Slovene as a foreign language designed for the students already mastering the level of the Slovenian language skills provided by the Slovene as a foreign language 1. The course is implemented through language practice in groups of 20. Teaching and learning is adapted to the level of communicative language skills of the participants, the contents reflecting the actual needs in everyday communication as well as in the academic environment of the University of Ljubljana. The student load corresponds to 3 ECTS credit points, including 60 hours of group work.

Recognition of the ECTS credit points

Students can arrange the recognition of ECTS credit points by/for:

  • applying the course Slovene as a foreign language 1 and Slovene as a foreign language 2 as an external elective course within degree programme in any year of study if his/her study program offers the opportunity to choose an external elective course and if faculty or academy recognizes the courses of the Year Plus module as an external elective course. We recommend that they check this matter with their faculty at the beginning of the academic year.
  • extension of student status, but only after the first year of studying (this right is not transferable to higher years).

Extension of student status
