To achieve patient-centred care with motivated health workers in an efficiently and transparently managed health system, we need innovation. Innovation goes beyond the boundaries of research laboratories and can be defined as technical, process, organisational and marketing.

Dr. Saša Jenko Kokalj is Head of the Health Reform Unit at the European Commission. Dr. Jenko Kokalj holds a PhD in Biomedicine from the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana. She was a young researcher at the Jožef Stefan Institute. During and after her PhD, she studied at various institutions around the world, including Johns Hopkins University, Jacobs University Bremen and the University of California, Berkeley. Later, she turned to research and health policy and management, working for the European Commission in DG Research and Innovation, DG Health, Structural Reform Support Service and currently DG Reform.
