University of Ljubljana is organizing a press conference on the establishment of the GreenHer Centre of Excellence in Green Heritage Science. As the first interdisciplinary and interinstitutional centre of excellence in heritage science to be established in Slovenia, the GreenHer Centre of Excellence represents a remarkable achievement for Slovenian science.
The speakers at the press conference will be:
- Professor Gregor Majdič, rector of the University of Ljubljana
- Federica Roffi, European Research Executive Agency (REA)
- Professor Matija Strlič, director of the GreenHer Centre of Excellence
- Jure Gašparič, State Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation
- Professor Gregor Dolinar, vice-rector of the University of Ljubljana for research and development
By integrating the humanities, natural sciences, technical disciplines and social sciences, the Centre will enable the development of new knowledge and technologies that will contribute to the conservation and understanding of our heritage and to strengthening European cooperation in this field.
The project GreenHer was selected for funding under the EU’s highly competitive “Teaming for Excellence” call and will receive €26.8 million over six years from the European Union and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation. This will support the renovation of existing research laboratories and the establishment of new ones, the development of a research group and the construction of new facilities at the University of Ljubljana. The Centre will also establish two “living laboratories” – at Simonov Zaliv on the coast and in the Ljubljansko Barje wetland – where its researchers, working with local communities, will develop and test new heritage conservation approaches and innovative business models in heritage tourism.
Joining the University of Ljubljana as partners in the project are the National and University Library, the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, the University of Maribor, the University of Primorska, the National Research Council of Italy and University College London (United Kingdom). Within the University of Ljubljana, the project involves the participation of the Faculty of Biotechnology, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the School of Economics and Business.
