Virtual SpaceHACK for Sustainability 2026
Event date: to
The event will bring together students and professors to develop innovative solutions using satellite data. During the two-day hackathon, participants will work in small groups to prepare a 5-minute presentation showing how satellite data can help achieve sustainable development goals. The event is organized by Arizona State University (ASU), a global partner within the EUTOPIA Alliance. The hackathon program is designed so that students from EUTOPIA Alliance partner universities can also participate virtually, despite the time difference.
SpaceHACK is linked to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are 17 global goals designed to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030.
Participants will work on one of the following topics:
- Mangroves and coastal cities,
- Innovative net-zero supply chain,
- Climate change and the information battle in the Alps.
Optional Preparation Workshop
To help students prepare for the hackathon, the Unit for Data Science and Analytics at the ASU Library will host a virtual workshop Working with Satellite Data: An Introduction to Google Earth Engine, on Wednesday March 18, at 6 pm (CET time). This session will provide a foundational overview of satellite data and introduces Google Earth Engine, a platform used for large-scale satellite data analysis. Link for the workshop is available here.
The record of the workshop will be sent to everyone registered for the SpaceHACK.
