On Friday, 22 March, the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Quality of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Boštjan Markoli, hosted representatives of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.

The meeting was aimed at deepening cooperation between the University of Ljubljana and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.The delegation also met with the management and staff of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, where they also visited the research laboratories.

Vilnius Gediminas Technical University is a predominantly technical university founded in 1956. It brings together 9 faculties of architecture, basic sciences, mechanical engineering, transport and environmental engineering, electrical and computer engineering, creative industries, civil engineering and business, and an institute of aviation. In addition, it has 4 research centres, 12 research institutes and 22 research laboratories. The university has 8,100 students, including 1,500 international students from 88 countries, and offers English-language courses in more than 50% of its programmes, as well as PhD programmes in 12 different research areas. It is part of the European University Alliance Athena, which also includes the University of Maribor.

Four members of the University of Ljubljana are currently cooperating with Vilnius Gediminas Technical University under the Erasmus+ programme: the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy, the Faculty of Administration and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University representatives have expressed interest in establishing cooperation with other members or in other areas. The University of Ljubljana has 49 Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreements with Lithuania and is currently cooperating in 21 European projects. In addition, Vilnius University also has a Slovenian language lectorate.
