The University of Ljubljana also appears on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, often referred to as the THE Rankings or WUR, where it managed to retain its position between 801st and 1000th place. This is the fifth year in a row in which it has appeared on this list, and means that it is ranked in the top half of the world’s best universities (the ranking, published in October, contained 2,092 institutions this year).

It is encouraging to see the university improve its WUR ranking this year as well, in both the teaching and research quality categories. Its highest WUR ranking, 518th, is in the industry category (resources for research from industry and patents, i.e. knowledge transfer).

WUR assesses research-oriented universities across five categories: teaching, research quality, research environment, international outlook and industry. It uses 18 indicators to produce the ranking, with a university’s reputation in teaching and research doing most to increase the overall score (together they account for a third of the score). The ARWU includes fewer indicators than WUR and is even more focused on universities’ research achievements.
