The University of Ljubljana is participating as a partner in the project "Universities Revitalising Growth and Empowerment in the Danube Region (URGE)", which is being implemented as part of the Interreg Danube Transnational Cooperation Programme. The project is led by the University of Belgrade; in addition to the University of Ljubljana, the University of Montenegro, the University of Mostar and the University of Rijeka are also involved in the project.
Its main objective is to establish a joint scientific diaspora network, supported by institutional frameworks and practical mechanisms that mitigate the effects of brain drain and foster inclusive innovation. This means creating digital platforms for visibility and matchmaking, investing in early-stage collaboration funds, reducing administrative barriers, and building institutional capacities to support long-term partnerships. Only through regional cooperation can we leverage the full potential of our scientific diasporas – not as passive observers, but as active co-creators of knowledge and drivers of societal development.
