Patron Dr Matija Tuma, founder of the Tuma Scholarship for Slovenian students, has passed away

Date of publication:
The patron Dr Matija Tuma passed away today. He and his wife, Jelena Vojvodić Tuma, generously donated a significant portion of their fortune to the Knafelj Foundation to support Slovenian science.
Together with the Knafelj Foundation in Vienna, the Tumas established the Slovenian Scholarship Fund in 2015. Dr Jelena Vojvodić Tuma and Dr Matija Tuma bestowed part of their assets on the Knafelj Foundation in Vienna, with the intention of supporting the education of Slovenian students. Following their wishes, the Knafelj Foundation created a scholarship fund from which the Tuma Scholarship is awarded.
In 2016, the Tumas were honoured with the 'Pro Universitate Labacensi' award for their efforts in facilitating scholarships for Slovenian students in Vienna and other centres of higher education. This award is presented by the University of Ljubljana to individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution to the development of the University’s resources or to the training of its staff through their means or work.
Dr Matija Tuma was born on 17 July 1938.
We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
