For many years, the UL has maintained close ties with German universities and research institutions, with 16 inter-university agreements and participation in 126 European projects. The Rector highlighted the University’s cooperation with the Dresden University of Technology (TUD), a member of EUTOPIA, the international alliance of European universities, and underscored the significance of the European Diploma. The European Commission’s roadmap for the European Diploma outlines key objectives, including increased employability, simplification of quality assurance and recognition systems, strategic university integration for greater global competitiveness, enhanced transnational cooperation, promotion of European values, multilingualism, and the development of digital and green skills.

Ambassador Groneick was impressed by the breadth of international cooperation and expressed surprise at the number of German students choosing to study in Slovenia. This academic year, 40 German students are enrolled at the UL, with an additional 278 participating in exchange programmes. The UL member faculties with the highest number of German exchange students are: School of Economics and Business with 55 students, Faculty of Social Work with 37 students, Faculty of Social Sciences with 29 students, Faculty of Arts with 28, and Faculty of Medicine with 25.
