University of Ljubljana strongly condemns the violence the against peaceful protesters in Belgrade. In response to the ongoing demonstrations, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič, sent a letter of support to the University of Belgrade, a partner institution of the UL.
Dear students,
The leadership of the University of Ljubljana, a partner of the University of Belgrade, extends its full support to you in your peaceful protests. We deeply admire your perseverance, energy, and organisation. Freedom of expression is a fundamental pillar of democracy, and no one should have the right to deny you this. We strongly condemn the violence against you and any attempts to silence your voices.
The University of Ljubljana already expressed its support for the student protests back in January (news available at the link). In light of the unacceptable pressure being exerted on you amid the mass demonstrations in Belgrade, we must once again raise our voices. We firmly denounce such actions and also extend our full support to our esteemed colleague, Prof. Dr Vladan Djokić, Rector of the University of Belgrade.
Dear students, professors, and all members of the academic community, the leadership of the University of Ljubljana – and, I am confident, the majority of our staff and students – stands with you in your struggle.
Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič, Rector of the University of Ljubljana
