Mark Weber, an artificial intelligence researcher from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), visited the UL Faculty of Electrical Engineering (UL FE), accompanied by the Dean of UL FE, Prof. Dr Marko Topič. During his visit, he explored key AI projects currently being developed at the Faculty.
Among the demonstrations, Mark Weber observed the FuzbAI autonomous table football game in the Laboratory of Automation and Cybernetics, a sensor system for autonomous navigation in the Laboratory for Machine Intelligence, and various AI applications. Additionally, the Laboratory for Telecommunications showcased its cyber-attack logging system.
Weber expressed his appreciation for the Faculty’s hands-on approach, noting that UL FE actively utilises its facilities and fosters an environment that encourages and enables experimentation – a stark contrast to many institutions worldwide, where such creativity is often stifled by bureaucracy. His visit focused on exchanging knowledge and best practices, concluding with discussions on potential future project collaborations.
Mark Weber is currently a Media Lab Fellow at MIT and an investor at Tectonic Ventures. With prior experience at IBM Research, the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, and the MIT Digital Currency Initiative, he has led multiple productisation teams from lab to market, and published research on graph deep learning, algorithmic fairness, and operations finance. The MIT Media Lab is a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment rooted in academic excellence. It fosters innovation through the collaboration of dozens of research teams, initiatives, and centres, working together on hundreds of transformative projects.
