On 14 March 2025 the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (UL FMF) held its now traditional competition in reciting the decimal places of pi and the “Pi Bake” (tekmovanje v peki pit) competition. The top contender turned out to be 17-year-old Vid Goršek, who succeeded in reciting a full 5,111 decimal places.
The competition to recite the decimal places of pi involved 25 participants and the Pi Bake competition had 17 contenders. The event is gaining increasing media attention, and this is reflected in the growing number of applicants. This year’s event was hosted by Juš Milčinski.
Along with the pi recitation competition and the Pi Bake competition, a varied accompanying programme was offered, and this included a tour of the electrical racing car of the Formula Student team, a demonstration of physical experiments, a popular science talk and an entertainment programme. The entertainment was provided by the Faculty’s own comedy improvisation league (Improliga), while students of UL FMF defied gravity with a dance performance.
The organisers thank all the participants, especially the UL FMF Student Council and the media partner, PIL magazine.
