The elections were conducted simultaneously at all 26 member faculties and at the Rector's Office of the University of Ljubljana. As in the first round, the elections were held electronically using the Simply Voting system.

Out of 43,088 eligible voters, 5,848 or 13.57% cast their vote: 2,188 or 51.71% in the group of higher-education teachers, researchers, and higher-education and research associates; 1,055 or 43.56% in the group of secretarial and technical staff; and 2,554 or 7.01% in the group of students. The vote tallying reflects a 60/20/20 weighting among these groups. 

Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič was elected in the second round. In the first round, three candidates ran for the position: Prof. Dr Metka Tekavčič (nominated by the UL EF), Prof. Dr Irena Mlinarič-Raščan (nominated by the UL FFA), and Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič (nominated by the UL VF). As no candidate received more than 50% of the valid votes in the first round, Prof. Dr Majdič, with 46.91%, and Prof. Dr Mlinarič-Raščan, with 32.54%, advanced to the second round.
