As part of the project, new solar power plants were installed on the roof of the Faculty, featuring various combinations of modules, inverters, micro-inverters, and optimisers, and positioned in different orientations. The initiative is primarily the work of the Dean and Head of the Laboratory of Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics, Prof. Dr Marko Topič, Res. Assoc. Dr Matevž Bokalič, and researcher Matej Guštin.

The solar power plants are expected to generate 200 megawatt hours of electricity annually, covering just over ten percent of the faculty’s yearly electricity consumption. This production will help to lower the faculty’s carbon footprint and reduce its peak power demand. In addition, the project aims to raise awareness of climate change among individuals and the wider public.

The special award from Finance for a promotional project in the field of renewable energy sources was accepted on behalf of the Faculty by Res. Assoc. Dr Matevž Bokalič at the award ceremony in Portorož.
