At today’s regular session, the Senate of the University of Ljubljana (UL) approved the proposal from the Faculty of Medicine (UL MF) to increase the number of admission places to higher years of study for the academic year 2025/26. Twenty additional admission places will be offered for the integrated master's study programme in Medicine, and five additional places for the programme in Dental Medicine. These places are intended for citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and are subject to approval by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.
The increase is in response to the growing interest among Slovenian medicine and dental medicine students currently studying abroad who wish to continue and complete their education in Slovenia. The UL MF has therefore decided to offer additional places within the existing transfer criteria.
“The opening of additional places is a concrete step in supporting those who wish to continue their education and careers in Slovenia. These places are not dependent on additional remuneration – our decision stems from a professional and social responsibility to help where we can. We believe this reflects our openness, solidarity and commitment to providing quality education for all future doctors and dentists," explained the Dean of the UL MF, Prof. Dr Igor Švab.
The Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič, added: "At the University of Ljubljana, we are committed to an open, inclusive and high-quality higher education and research environment built on knowledge, collaboration and social responsibility. The initiative by the UL MF to open additional places for Slovenian medicine and dental medicine students who began their studies abroad but wish to complete them at home is a reflection of these values. In doing so, we not only support their professional ambitions but also contribute to the long-term strengthening of Slovenian healthcare and society as a whole."
