The University of Ljubljana supports the CYCLE2CONNECT – European Student Cycling Challenge 2027 project and invites students to take part in one of Europe’s largest initiatives promoting sustainable mobility, an active lifestyle and international networking. The project is part of the Erasmus+ Sport programme and brings together students from 12 European countries in a shared cycling challenge. The initiative aims to encourage the integration of cycling into everyday life, improve young people’s health, and reduce adverse environmental impacts.
How can you take part?
Participation is simple: students download the CYCLE2CONNECT mobile application and start recording their daily cycling routes.
The app enables users to track the kilometres they have cycled and participate in a team challenge connecting students from different universities. The more kilometres participants cycle, the greater their chances of ranking among the top participants.
Kilometres will be collected during the official period from 1 May 2026 to 31 March 2027. Rides that form part of everyday mobility (e.g. commuting to university or recreational cycling) will be taken into account, provided that the kilometres are recorded in the app.
The most successful students will represent their university at the European Student Cycling Challenge, which will take place in Ljubljana on 10 June 2027.
Each university will be represented by a team consisting of:
- 3 male students and 3 female students
- 1 team leader
Teams will compete in a team cycling event through Ljubljana city centre and participate as representatives of their universities.
Who can participate?
To participate, students must:
- hold valid student status in the 2026/27 academic year (or complete their studies in 2026),
- use the CYCLE2CONNECT application,
- join one university group,
- comply with safe cycling rules.
What do you gain by participating?
The top participants will have the opportunity to:
- take part in the international team challenge,
- participate in educational workshops on sustainable mobility and healthy living,
- engage in international student networking,
- receive an official competition package.
All participating students, including those who do not qualify for the final round, will also be entitled to a 30% discount on participation in Marathon Franja 2027.
More than just a sporting challenge
The CYCLE2CONNECT project connects universities, cities and organisations, and also includes educational activities, workshops and digital tools aimed at encouraging long-term changes in young people’s mobility habits.
By participating, students:
- contribute to sustainable mobility,
- strengthen their health and well-being,
- connect with students from across Europe,
- actively contribute to creating a more sustainable society.
