The collection and the UL Shop were created in response to growing demand in recent years, particularly from students, staff, alumni and visitors to the university. Merchandise is an important part of a contemporary university’s messaging: it strengthens allegiance to the academic community, helps to raise the profile of our institution, and also plays a role in building the university’s identity.

The range includes university-branded sweatshirts, mugs, flasks and notebooks, the last made from old stocks of paper and card left over following the redesign. The textile collection is a special segment created during the redesign.

The textile collection was designed by Tasja Videmšek, a student at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, under the mentorship of prof. dr. Katja Burger Kovič. In designing the textile collection, she took inspiration from the new UL logo, transforming the provincial mansion motif into contemporary geometric patterns that bridge the university’s tradition and identity.

In putting the collection together we focused on maintaining a sustainable approach and supporting the local environment, putting our trust in Slovenian manufacturers wherever possible. Videmšek drew inspiration from the new UL logo when designing the textile collection. She deconstructed the central motif of the stylised main university building into basic geometric elements, and transformed them into abstract graphic patterns that in her own words “combine tradition and modernity while preserving the university’s identity”.
