About the programme

Graduates of the study programme acquire internationally comparable fundamental knowledge of archaeology. This enables them to identify archaeological sources, assess them in terms of their basic functional, chronological, spatial, and cultural characteristics, and critically use professional and scientific archaeological literature.

With the knowledge gained, graduates are qualified to perform auxiliary and technical professional tasks in museums and institutes for the protection of cultural heritage, as well as in other cultural institutions and public services, the media, and companies involved in culture, heritage, tourism, and spatial planning.

Basic familiarity with and mastery of the methods and techniques of archaeological fieldwork, post-excavation work, laboratory procedures, and documentation practices allow them to successfully participate as technical associates in field and post-field archaeological research, as well as in projects related to the recording, protection, evaluation, presentation, and promotion of (archaeological) cultural heritage.

The first-cycle study programme in Archaeology prepares students for continuing their archaeological studies at the second-cycle level.
