About the programme

Graduates of the second-level master's study programme in Italian studies acquire all the core knowledge expected of a graduate in Italian according to international standards.  They are also able to apply the knowledge and competences they acquire in a critical and flexible manner in a variety of contexts. Graduates of the double-subject degree programme are equally able to apply such knowledge and competences in relation to the other subject or area of their study.

Graduates acquire the following skills and competences: in-depth knowledge of the Italian language system, including some familiarity with the discipline of linguistics in order to be equipped to carry out independent research on modern Italian language; knowledge of literary history and literary criticism that will enable them to independently study literary texts; knowledge of fundamental  research approaches and methods in the area of Italian language and literature; knowledge of selected aspects of language contact between Italian and Slovene on the western border and knowledge of the sociolinguistic situation of the Slovene ethnic community in Italy and of the Italian ethnic community in Slovenia; ability to cooperate linguistically and overcome communication barriers at a high level.
