About the programme

By completing the combined Master's degree programme Latin Language, Literature and Culture, the graduate acquires in-depth knowledge of the Latin language, culture and literature. He acquires general competences of a humanistic intellectual as well as specific technical skills:  he has a thorough command of Latinlanguage and is able to read the most challenging texts in the original; he comprehends the history of Latin and its influence on modern languages; he has a thorough knowledge of Latin literature and culture from antiquity to modern era; he is acquainted with the role that ancient and later Latin literature played in European literature and culture.
The student can choose either a research course or a Teacher Education course, which offers a thorough knowledge of ancient Latin language and culture for teaching profession.

The graduate is acquainted with the methods of philological textual analysis and is able to understand and interpret literary and technical works in a historical context, being familiar with modern theoretical ideas and methodological approaches. He develops abilities and expertise to do research independently, to translate literary texts, to work in other areas where highly developed textual skills  and knowledge of Latin are required: archeology and museology, history, art history, linguistics and literary studies. The Teacher Education Course graduate is qualified to impart the knowledge of Latin language, ancient literary and cultural history of Roman antiquity, as well as its heritage in later periods.
