Brief project description
The Slovenian economy and society need accurate data, simulations of effects, and practical, technologically innovative, and socially acceptable solutions to combat and effectively adapt to climate change. As part of the A-RISE project, which brings together researchers from the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, and Faculty of Biotechnology at the University of Ljubljana, we want to use advanced climate simulations at a disaggregated level based on complex models and neural networks to first simulate the effects on natural conditions, then the conditions for the development of the bioeconomy, and to strengthen the resilience of agriculture, forestry, and other segments of the (bio)economy with pilot technological solutions. We also want to design and transfer to society the importance of a broader consensus for the implementation of the proposed solutions, for which cooperation with stakeholders throughout the chain will be extremely important. The research funds we have obtained will enable us to carry out research that would otherwise not be possible, hire several new researchers, and establish an interdisciplinary research laboratory.
The horizontally organized project is led by Prof. Dr. Tjaša Redek (UL EF), with the participation of established researchers, including Doc. Dr. Žiga Zaplotnik, Prof. Dr. Miha Ravnik (UL FMF), Doc. Dr. Boštjan Lesar, Prof. Dr. Miha Humar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tjaša Pogačar, and Assoc. Prof. Luka Juvančič (UL BF). The experience of Prof. Dr. Ljubica Knežević Cvelbar and Prof. Dr. Vesna Žabkar (UL EF) will be crucial in working with local communities and studying individuals' attitudes towards the environment.
