Aljoša Dekleva
An internationally awarded architect, co-founder of Dekleva Gregorič architects and head of the experimental educational program AA VS Nanotourism at the Architectual Association, London. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana and passed the Master of Architecture in London, the Architectural Association with excellence.
Together with Tina Gregorič he founded the internationally successful studio Dekleva Gregorič Architects, and he is also involved in architectural education. He was a visiting professor at the Université de Montréal in Canada and at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture Paris - Val de Seine in France. At the Architectural Association he heads the AA VS Nanotourism programme, which operates in Slovenia and France, and will also be implemented in the USA in 2018. He frequently lectures around Europe and the USA, and at the last TEDx event in Ljubljana he gave a talk on nanotourism.
His architectural studio received special praise at the 21 for 21 WAN AWARDS 2012, which showcases 21 architects with the potential for leading architectural production in the 21st century. Their projects have garnered major international success and more than 50 prizes and awards. Even the first project, XXS House, met with international acclaim. The House on the Island of Maui earned the American Architecture Prize 2016 and International Architecture Awards 2012, and the Compact Karst House won the WAN House of the Year 2015 prize and special praise of the Architectural Review House Award 2015. Four of the studio’s projects were nominated for the major Mies van der Rohe architecture prize.
In 2014, together with Tina Gregorič at BIO50 he set out the basis for nanotourism and received major acclaim for this. At the 2016 Architecture Biennial in Venice, as curators of the Slovenian pavilion they created a well-received presentation. Aljoša Dekleva is the author of numerous articles on architecture and co-author of the book Negotiate my boundary!, 2002: London, and the book Home by Dekleva Gregorič architects, 2016: Ljubljana. He is a regular member of commissions for architecture prizes and competitions around the world.
