Božidar Šarler

Prof. Dr Božidar Šarler, alumnus of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Ljubljana, is a full professor and Head of the Chair of Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UL.
Prof Dr Božidar Šarler graduated in Engineering Physics - Industrial Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at UL in 1981, obtained a Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Maribor and a PhD in Engineering Sciences at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maribor in 1990.
After graduating, he joined the Jožef Stefan Institute. From 1991 to 2000 he was employed at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at UL and from 2001 to 2016 he was a professor at the University of Nova Gorica. Since 2015 he has been working at the Institute of Metal Materials and Technologies and since 2017 he has been a full professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at UL and Head of the Chair of Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics. He is a visiting professor at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, Taiyuan University of Technology, China and the University of Naples "Parthenope", Italy. He has also worked for more than 4 years as a researcher and teacher at universities in Hong Kong, Paris, Orlando, Warsaw, Las Vegas and Erlangen, Germany. He has carried out several national and international fundamental and industrial projects in the field of multiphase systems.
Prof Dr Božidar Šarler holds several senior and other important positions at home and abroad, including member of the Engineering Council and Slovenia's representative in the ESFRI Energy Working Group and member of the Eurotherm Committee.
He is a recipient of the Push Prize (2006) for outstanding applied achievements in the field of modelling and simulation of materials and processes and the Zois Prize (2016) for outstanding scientific achievements in the development and application of grid-free numerical methods. He was also honoured with the Shanxi Province of China - 100 Talent Plan Award and has been a Distinguished Member of ICCES since 2017.
