Graduate of the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana, successful businessman, philanthropist, and honorary consul of Morocco and Belarus in Slovenia.

Janez Škrabec graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana and then continued his studies at Cleveland State University in the US, INSEAD Business School in Fontainebleau and the IEDC business school in Bled. 

In 1991 he founded the company Riko d.o.o., which today undertakes engineering projects in the fields of industry, environmental protection, energy, logistics systems and construction, and is successful on international markets.

He is honorary consul of Morocco and Belarus, and president of the Slovenian-Russian Business Council, the Ljubljana Faculty of Economics Alumni Club and the Slovenian Consular Assembly, as well as a prominent member of a large number of business associations.

According to survey by Kline & Partner, Janez Škrabec is one of the most well-respected business figures in Slovenia. He has received many awards, including a Finance award for outstanding business achievements (2007), a business and enterprise award from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2008), a 2017 Manager award and Russia’s highest state honour, the Order of Friendship, which he received from the Russian president in 2009. 

Janez Škrabec sponsors art and cultural projects in a personal capacity and through his company. His social and socially conscious activities are centred on Škrabčeva Domačija, or the Škrabec Homestead, in Hrovača, which has become one of Slovenia’s most internationally renowned cultural organisations. In The New Philanthropist, The New Generosity by Charles Handy, world-renowned management guru, Janez Škrabec is listed as one of 23 new global philanthropists for his efforts as a donor and patron.
