Marjetica Potrč

An artist and architect, she graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, and completed postgraduate studies in sculpture under Professor Lujo Vodopivec.

Her status as an artist of world renown was confirmed by Newsweek magazine, who named her one of the ten most important contemporary artists on the planet in 2011. Her work encompasses drawings, architectural case studies and public community projects. She has exhibited around the world, including at the Venice Biennale (1993, 2003, 2009) and São Paulo Biennial (1996, 2006). Her work can be found in public collections in places as diverse as the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana, MoMA in New York, the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Hamburger Bahnhof museum of contemporary art in Berlin.

She currently lives and works in Ljubljana and Berlin. Since 2011 she has been a professor at the HFBK University of Fine Arts of Hamburg, and has also been visiting professor on many occasions, including at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). From 1993 to 2004 she was associate professor at the Department of Design at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts.

Marjetica has received numerous awards for her work, including a Prešeren Fund Award in 1994, a Jakopič Award in 2003 and a grant from the New School in New York (2007). In 2000 she received the prestigious Hugo Boss Prize for contemporary art, which included a solo exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
