Scientist and alumnus of the UL Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, works in the area of cavitation and more broadly in the field of fluid dynamics. He is a full professor at the University of Ljubljana and the first Slovenian scientist to have obtained funds from the European Research Council (ERC) to support his independent research.

Prof. Dr Matevž Dular is a beneficiary of the call for projects issued by the European Research Council aimed at researchers after they have completed doctorates to consolidate their independent research path (ERC Consolidator Grant). He obtained funding for the CABUM project, which deals with cavitation, the phenomenon where upon a sudden reduction in pressure, bubbles appear in a liquid, and later in a field with higher pressure these bubbles collapse violently. They anticipate that the research results will lead to a better knowledge of the phenomenon of cavitation, which could be used in the future for environmentally friendly treatment of drinking and waste water.

Prof. Dr Matevž Dular graduated and gained his doctorate from the UL Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, where he works in the Laboratory for Water and Turbine Machines. In 2017 he gained the title of full professor, and thereby became the youngest full professor at the University of Ljubljana.

During his career he has also gained experience abroad, at several institutions such as TU-Darmstadt, Arts et Metiers ParisTech, FH Heidelberg and the University of Colorado. He has also headed several projects for the European Space Agency (ESA).

His success has earned him several awards. In 2017 he received the prize for the most outstanding achievement of the past year: Excellent in Science, the prize for one of 10 most outstanding research achievements at the University of Ljubljana, in 2014 he received the Rector’s prize for the top innovation at the University of Ljubljana and in 2002 the Prešeren Prize for students at the University of Ljubljana.
