The new director general of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and a specialist in women’s management. She works in Slovenia in the areas of the economy, management and business operations, and is an alumna of the Economics Faculty in Ljubljana.

Sonja Šmuc is actively focused on the development of management and leadership in Slovenia and further afield, on the aspect of competitiveness of the economy, business ethics, regional linking and women’s management. She is the co-author of the book Izvozno tveganje pod nadzorom (Export Risk under Control) and the author of over 700 business-related articles. Sonja gained her education at the Economics Faculty in Ljubljana, then received additional training at Stanford University in California, USA, in Austria (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien) and at IEDC, the Bled Business School.

During her career, Sonja Šmuc has held several positions of leadership. She was the executive editor of the magazine Manager, for 12 years she headed the Manager Association as executive director, and in October she became the new director general of the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia. She is a member of numerous national and international professional bodies (Summit100 Business Leaders SE Europe, the BAMC Accreditation Commission, the Slovenian Equal Opportunities Council, the International Graphic Art Centre) and committees for awarding prizes. In 2016 she was the co-recipient of a bronze medal for innovation in publishing – Entrepreneurs in a company, which was awarded by the Central Slovenia regional office of the Chamber of Commerce in Ljubljana.
