Violeta Jurković

Violeta Jurković is an alumna and Associate Professor of English at the Faculty of Maritime Policy and Transport (UL FPP) and very active in the field of foreign languages.
At UL FPP she teaches Maritime English, English for Sailors, English for Marine Engineers, Professional English for Transport and Logistics Technology and Maritime Communication. She has participated in various projects (Summer Logistics School, Slovenian Maritime Terminology I and II, TRAILs, SmartSea, EGMDSS). She is a member of the UL FPP Senate and Head of the UL FPP Quality Commission. She is an active member of the Slovenian Society of Teachers of Foreign Professional Languages (SDUTSJ). Within the SDUTSJ she is a member of the editorial board of the journal Scripta Manent, co-editor of the monograph Researching Foreign Languages of the Profession in Slovenia and was Head of the programme committee of the first SDUTSJ International Scientific Conference.
At the Faculty of Arts, she leads the Slovenian team of the Erasmus+ project TRAILs, which aims to prepare the training of teachers of foreign languages of the profession. Her main research areas are Maritime English, methodology of foreign language teaching and informal foreign language learning. She has presented her research findings at many Slovenian and international conferences and her articles have been published in renowned journals. She has worked as a reviewer for a number of Slovenian and foreign journals and was recognised for her outstanding work as a reviewer for the highly indexed SSCI journal English for Specific Purposes.
In 2019, she received the FIPLV Award of the International Federation of Foreign Language Teachers' Associations for her dedicated academic, research, teaching and professional work in the field of foreign language education, especially in the foreign language profession.
