Summer school Lopar 1: Biology and Species Diversity of Higher Crustaceans
Decapod crustaceans are an important component of marine benthic communities, occupying all habitats and trophic levels; as such, they are important indicators of the condition of the seafloor. During the summer school, we will supplement the assessment of decapod species diversity in the area around Cape Zidine from 2025 and update the species inventory. We will test new methods for capturing decapods and will also sample at two new locations. For selected species, we will attempt to relate their occurrence to abiotic parameters and conduct a population density census, and for crabs, basic morphometry. The main outcome of Summer School Lopar 1 will be an updated species list and the association of individual species with abiotic data.
