Dr Marko Ilešič was a distinguished judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. He served as a judge for twenty years, during which time he was also President of its Second Chamber. He spent a significant part of his professional career at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana, where he was renowned as an outstanding and highly respected lecturer. After his departure to the Court of Justice of the European Union, Dr Marko Ilešič took the University of Ljubljana's reputation to a wider European level. Throughout his tenure at the Court, he maintained a strong link with the University of Ljubljana and always demonstrated his loyalty to the University in his appearances abroad, thus enhancing the reputation of his alma mater.
