Vacant position: University teacher – Assistant Professor (D019008) or Associate Professor (D019007) or Full Professor (D019006), depending on the acquired academic title (M/F), at the Department of Visual Communication Design, in the Photography programme.
The position is offered for an indefinite period with full-time employment.
Expected start date: November 1, 2025, or after the selected candidate is appointed to the relevant academic title, which is a prerequisite for employment.
Conditions for employment:
- A doctoral degree (previous system) in the relevant field or recognition of significant artistic works by the University of Ljubljana; or a PhD (3rd Bologna cycle) in the relevant field or recognition of significant artistic works by the University of Ljubljana;
- A valid academic title of Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Full Professor at the University of Ljubljana in the field of Photography. The candidate meets this condition if they hold a valid title from the University of Ljubljana or a valid title of visiting professor in the relevant field.
- If the candidate does not hold the required title at the time of application but meets the quantitative and qualitative criteria for appointment according to the Criteria for Appointment to Academic Titles at the University of Ljubljana dated October 25, 2011 (and subsequent amendments), they may apply for the position. In this case, the application must include evidence of meeting these criteria and a written statement agreeing that, in the event the selection committee chooses them for employment, the application will also be considered as an application for appointment to the title or for recognition of the title;
- Active knowledge of the English language.
- Knowledge of the Slovene language at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). If the selected candidate does not meet this requirement at the time of employment, they must meet it within three years from the start of employment.
Additional competencies:
- Rhetorical skills, innovation, ability to organize their own work and the work of colleagues, teamwork abilities, problem-solving and innovation skills;
- Demonstrated ability to connect the discipline with a broader interdisciplinary context;
- Demonstrated achievements with international relevance;
- Preference will be given to candidates with at least five years of experience in teaching in higher education;
- Preference will be given to candidates with references in the field of photography.
Brief description of work tasks:
- Designing and updating course syllabi and adapting higher education professional study programmes to current requirements;
- Organizing or co-organising all activities for the implementation of the course in accordance with the syllabus and scientific findings, coordinating and supervising the work of other staff involved in the course (assistants, technical and other collaborators);
- Lecturing, leading seminars and other pedagogical activities related to the subject;
- Supervising, evaluating, and correcting examination assignments and tests;
- Mentoring students in their thesis work and other academic activities;
- Participating in other activities related to teaching in the field (e.g. recognition of foreign qualifications);
- Conducting scientific research, studying and developing concepts, theories, and methods;
- Ensuring occupational health and safety for employees and students in the unit, providing appropriate training and information for those handling hazardous substances, use of personal protective equipment, and implementation of other safety measures;
- Performing other tasks that fall within the broader professional domain of the position;
- Participating in the management and governance of the institution, including involvement in committees and bodies at the UL ALUO and the University of Ljubljana.
