ALUO, University teacher – Assistant Professor , at the Department of Painting, in the study programme Video, Animation and New Media

Vacant position: University teacher – Assistant Professor (D019008) (M/F), at the Department of Painting, in the study programme Video, Animation and New Media.

The position is offered for an indefinite period with full-time employment.

Commencement of employment: 1 November 2025, or once the selected candidate has been elected to the required academic title, which is a condition for occupying the position.

Conditions for employment:

• Doctoral degree (previous system) in the relevant field or recognition of important artistic works by the University of Ljubljana, or a doctoral degree (third Bologna cycle) in the relevant field or recognition of important artistic works by the University of Ljubljana;
  • valid academic title of Assistant Professor of the University of Ljubljana for the field of video and new media. A candidate meets this condition if they hold a valid title of the University of Ljubljana or a valid title of visiting professor in the relevant field. If, at the time of application, the candidate does not hold the required title but meets the quantitative and qualitative criteria for election to this title under the Criteria for Election to Titles of Higher Education Teachers, Researchers and Associates of the University of Ljubljana (No. 012-1/20215 of 22 November 2022, as amended), the candidate may apply for the position and, in this case, must submit proof of compliance with the said criteria and attach a statement agreeing that, if selected by the selection committee, the application shall also be treated as an application for election or recognition of the title;
• active knowledge of the English language;
• knowledge of the Slovenian language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) – if the selected candidate does not meet this requirement at the time of employment, they must fulfil it within three years after employment.

Additional competencies:

• knowledge of the field of intermedia/new media art and artistic video;
• knowledge of animation (experimental, narrative and non-narrative), with an emphasis on digital techniques;
• competences in video graphics and special effects software (After Effects), 3D modelling and animation (Blender), computer game development (Unity);
• ability to interconnect artistic practices in an interdisciplinary way;
• rhetorical skills, innovativeness, organisational skills in artistic production processes;
• preference will be given to candidates with at least five years of teaching experience in higher education;
• preference will also be given to candidates in intermedia/new media art who demonstrate proficiency in relevant computer software.

Job description and tasks:

• designing and updating curricula and adapting higher education study programmes to requirements.
• organising or co-organising all activities for the implementation of a course in accordance with the curriculum and professional findings, and coordinating and supervising the work of other course providers (assistants, technical and other staff);
• delivering lectures, leading seminars and other pedagogical activities.
• supervising, evaluating and correcting examination tasks and tests;
• mentoring students in the preparation of final theses at all three levels of study;
• leading and organising student projects and festivals;
• artistic and research work;
• participation in other activities related to teaching in the field (recognition of foreign qualifications, etc.);
• participation in governance, i.e. membership in bodies and committees of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) and the University of Ljubljana.
