Start of employment: Fixed-term, between 12 and 15 months (by agreement), starting between 01.10.2026 and 01.01.2027 (by agreement), ending by 31.12.2027.

CONDITIONS FOR THE POSITION:

• Doctorate of Science (previous or 3rd Bologna cycle) in the field of mathematics, physics or statistics (foreign certificates may be used in the Republic of Slovenia if duly authenticated in the country of origin, in accordance with the Act on the Authentication of Documents in International Traffic; certificates issued in countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents must be authenticated with an Apostille stamp).
• Habilitation title of Assistant or Assistant – Researcher in the field of mathematics, physics, or statistics, conferred by the University of Ljubljana – the employee must meet this requirement no later than within 4 months from the date of commencement of employment.
• Innovation, ability to work in a team, communication skills, organizational skills.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Scientific research and professional work in research (P1-0448 Stochastic Methods and Their Applications),
• professional cooperation with clients commissioning research projects,
• preparation of written reports and studies on research as well as expert opinions,
• participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching,
• preparation of proposals for the acquisition of research equipment, maintenance of equipment, and ordering of consumables,
• carrying out tasks within one’s field as assigned by the head of the organizational unit, as well as other duties that fall within the broader professional scope of the position,
• publishing professional and scientific articles.

The work will be research (including publication of research), on topics as determined by mutual agreement:

• in areas of existing interest of the candidate that fall under probability and its applications;
• and/or in areas of interest of other members of the programme P1-0448 (these include: processes with stationary independent increments; excursion theory of Markov processes; Tsirelson's theory of stochastic noises; deep/machine learning; Stein's method and the central limit theorem; copulas; actuarial mathematics).
