Researcher for work within the ESFRI ELIXIR project at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics

Faculty of Medicine, full-time (100%), fixed-term employment until 31.12.2027. (M/F). 

CONDITIONS FOR THE POSITION:

• completed specialization based on (former) higher education, or university-level higher education (former system), or a Master’s degree (2nd Bologna cycle) in natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, or related fields;
• innovativeness, ability to work in a team, communication skills, organizational abilities, proficiency in using computer programs, and knowledge of a global foreign language;
• desirable knowledge in database development, bioinformatics, genomic data analysis, statistics (biostatistics), and/or high-performance computing;
• desirable strong theoretical and practical programming skills (Python, R), use of software package managers (conda, anaconda), and use and configuration of Linux operating systems (bash, sh);
• desirable familiarity with and configuration of bioinformatics tools (Galaxy, Nextflow, Snakemake), advanced algorithms, and knowledge of databases (Ensembl, NCBI, …);
• 1 year of relevant work experience Preferably 1 year of relevant work experience
• Probation period: 3 months

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Scientific research and professional work in research projects
• Professional collaboration with clients of research projects
• Preparation of written reports, studies, and expert analyses
• Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
• Preparation of proposals for purchasing research equipment, maintenance of equipment, and ordering consumables
• Performing tasks within the scope of the position as assigned by the head of the organizational unit and other related duties

Detailed description:

• development and implementation of tools and algorithms for processing and analysis of genomes obtained from next- and third-generation sequencing platforms;
• analysis of high-density data using high-performance computing (HPC);
• participation in research projects, addressing some of the most pressing scientific and research challenges in human genomics and systems medicine;
• presentation of scientific research work at conferences and in publications.
