The workshop consists of two parts. It begins with a presentation by Associate Professor Birgit Penzenstadler, whose research focuses on software engineering and sustainability. She will provide background and context on how sustainability can be integrated into higher education curricula at the University of Gothenburg and internationally. In this presentation, she will also introduce her guideline “Sustainify Your Syllabi”, a tool she has developed to support educators in embedding sustainability into their courses.

The second part is a hands-on exercise focusing on selected course syllabi. Volunteer course leaders from EUTOPIA alliance institutions will briefly present their course syllabi and share their approaches to integrating sustainable development. The syllabi will then be discussed in small groups, followed by group reflections and a plenary discussion. The workshop concludes with reflections from the course leaders, participants and workshop leaders in response to the feedback, along with plans for a follow-up workshop.

Departing from the recent system mapping report, the workshop is aimed at enhancing our shared capacity to embed sustainability thinking into curriculum development, course activities, and broader pedagogical practices.
