Summer School Design+Science
Event date:
Event location: Piran, Slovenija
Design+Science is a multidisciplinary Summer School that promotes exploration and experimentation at the intersection of design and various scientific fields, led by renowned experts in their respective fields. This week-long Summer School includes workshops, guest lectures, tours, and other activities. Theme of this year's summer school, which will take place between 6th and 10th July in Piran, is the sea: we approach it as a thinking partner, a 3.8 billion year old, self regulating, interdependent system that has outlasted any model we have built. Application is possible until May 29.

Apply for Design+Science summer school
To apply for the summer school, you must attach a CV of no more than two pages to the application form, along with links to your portfolio or social media profiles, if you have them. Once you start filling out the application form, you can switch between pages at any time, as the text you’ve entered will not be lost.
Application formSummer school will revolve around these topics:
- Invasion Below the Surface: the ocean is becoming a shifting biosphere where species, bacteria, and human influence collide, creating ecosystems defined by constant disruption rather than equilibrium.
- Life in a Warming Seas: as seas warm, coastlines sink, fish vanish, and waters fill with waste, we’re pushed to design for a future where loss and instability define life below and above the surface.
- Who Owns the Ocean? Beneath the waves lies a hidden map of trade, cables, and conflict, where control of the sea still shapes power and inequality.
- Paradise For Rent: Coastlines are being turned into consumable experiences, where tourism packages nature into an image. Often at the cost of the ecosystems and cultures behind it.
Keynote speakers are: Ivica Mitrović (University of Split), Birgit Bachler (FH Joanneum), Dorijan Šiško (University of Ljubljana) in Emil Kozole (University of Ljubljana).
