A reduction of CO2 emissions by 17 million tons, energy savings of nearly 9 billion kWh, and a decrease in material consumption by approximately 800,000 tons over ten years. These are the expected outcomes of the groundbreaking Greentech program, which brings together 11 partners from academia and industry. The program is led by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana.

Greentech combines top scientific expertise with leading industrial partners to support Slovenian companies in the green transition on two levels: manufacturing processes and products. It is a research program designed to integrate revolutionary solutions across the entire value chain of the development and manufacturing process – from R&D solutions to technological advancements in production, and energy-efficient devices based on materials sourced from the EU. The program's impact will first focus on the green transition in Slovenia, with a subsequent expansion to the European Union and the planet as a whole.

Partnerships for Innovation
In addition to the leading partner, UL FS, the consortium includes prominent companies such as Gorenje, Fotona, Domel, LPKF, Yaskawa Slovenia, Danfoss Trata, Kronoterm, and Medius, as well as research organizations like the Faculty of Social Sciences (UL) and the Faculty of Management (UP). Together, they aim to develop advanced solutions that will enhance the global competitiveness of Slovenian industry.

"The Greentech program demonstrates how collaboration between research institutions and industry can lead to breakthrough solutions that not only improve technological processes but also significantly contribute to sustainable development. The combined knowledge and experience of such a large number of partners enable the creation of innovations with a direct impact on the global competitiveness of Slovenian industry," says Prof. Dr. Janko Slavič from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the leader of the Greentech research program.

The research program, funded as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, has a total budget of €5.2 million, with €3.75 million co-financed.
