University of Ljubljana joins the Global education coalition

The University of Ljubljana (Univerza v Ljubljani) has officially joined the Global Education Coalition (GEC), a UNESCO-led, multi-sector platform launched in March 2020 to safeguard the right to education during global disruptions, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Global Education Coalition aims to:
- Ensure continuity of learning worldwide, especially for the most disadvantaged areas.
- Promote digital inclusion, teacher empowerment, and gender equality through three key initiatives:
- Global Skills Academy
- Global Teacher Campus
- Global Learning House
GEC coordinates efforts among over 175 partners from the UN, civil society, academia, and the private sector to advocate for and mobilize resources. coordinate impactful interventions. match national educational needs with global solutions. and provide free, secure technological tools for remote education.
As a newly joined member, the University of Ljubljana contributes its expertise in green and digital literacy, lifelong learning and microcredentials, promoting inclusion, diversity, and equity, and aligning with future-proof skills and social resilience strategies. The University is a host of the UNESCO Chair on Teacher Education for Sustainable Development, fostering collaboration and advancing systemic approaches to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
Planned Contributions to GEC:
- Participation in teacher training initiatives, including hybrid and online formats.
- Development of learning resources in STEM and sustainability.
- Involvement in international and national projects supporting SDG 4: Quality Education.
- Sharing research insights and innovative pedagogies via GEC’s global network.
With this membership, the University of Ljubljana reaffirms its commitment to building a human-centered, inclusive, and sustainable educational future through collaboration and innovation on a global scale.
